The Dream Before Red

Welcome to the dust filled valleys
where everything lay barren and plain
nothing is as it seems though
and it hides in it deep pain

Once great prairies and pastures
now only sand and sun
burning unable to cry
yearning for laughter and fun

Yes long are the yesterdays that echo
phantoms dance in setting sun
Wind blazing unable to whistle
for all the trees are gone done

Houses abandoned for travel
streets slowly sinking in time
memories no longer recalled
tombs swallowed
spirits unable to rest

The ever seeking hunger for new breath
Death seeks all
in unchanging tide
the universe churning so as to answer the demands of feeding

Nay, life is but fleeting petals upon wind's grace and the divine
and we..aye, we who are but moments passing still beg to understand
yet, but is it for us to?
Nay, for if it were then like bird flies south surely we in turn would know
Alas, we are left to ponder
questions never to be answered even if to shout

Perhaps tomorrow..
tomorrow..

Bathed in red
here commoth first light.
